Comparative analysis of the ways of non-equivalent vocabulary translation on the example of Neil Gaiman's novel "Nowhere"

The article deals with the types of non-equivalent vocabulary (NEV) as well as the ways of translating them from English into Russian. The study focuses on the analysis of the English version of the novel "Nowhere" created by Neil Gaiman, an outstanding fantasy genre writer, and two versions of the Russian translation made by M.A. Melnichenko and A.A. Komarinets. The work describes the adventures of the main character Richard Mayhew, who accidentally falls into the fabulous world of Lower London. Since the translation of non-equivalent vocabulary presents a certain complexity, the paper attempts to conduct a comparative analysis of NEV translation methods and determine the most frequent ones. In the course of the research, the following methods were used: quantitative methods, continuous sampling methods and linguistic analysis. The results of the study are presented in the form of diagrams.
